Sorry to pass out before mailing you this Afara, but this may be a good place to post it so future builders/GMs could use it for reference when making their own.
EVENT THEME
This was chosen by forum members via a poll. The result was a tie:
Dragons!! A little fire-breathing action to warm us up.
Santa!! Oh, you're gonna believe in Santa, when he stuffs your stocking with blood!
EVENT SETUP
Here are all the pieces and steps taken to prepare for this event.
1. placed holiday items (festively decorated tree)
1b. placed holiday items (presents respawn every 12 hours)
2. shops with holiday equipment -- wide range
2b. shop offers quests for collecting presents
(Collection / Explore Quest)
2c. shop offers quests for dragons / evil santa
(Main / Live RP Open Ended Quest)
3. placed holiday NPCs.
3b. added XMAS conversation to Libra.
4. placed Saint Nick (real santa) in the nexus to be summoned by GM.
QUEST OUTLINE
These are the steps to consider as a GM when a player wants to attempt finishing the quest. The GM has a good amount of freedom to interpret a solution based on light roleplay interaction with the player. The GM may play the role of a character which is able to help team up with the player, merely serve as a guide, or even act as an antagonist. If not wishing to roleplay directly, the GM may use echo commands to deliver hints/messages and interactions with NPCs, etc., to help the player along.
1. Players are free to play holiday event content from implementation.
[The collection quests are completely automated, and most of the quests of the plot line are automated.
The role of the GM here would be to maybe send an echo every now and then of something relating to the event such as:
> echo-world A house-wife kisses her husband goodbye as he is sent to investigate the reports of dragons in the lands.
]
2. GM may need to assist players unable to travel to the astral plane, (by engaging in roleplay / grouping, etc).
[Here a GM would interact with the player directly (in character) to help them get to the astral plane, or by facilitating a method to get there from behind the scenes, such as hinting that the portal master may be bribed to send them there, or something like that. There are some more automated quests here.]
3. GM may need to assist players to bring the corrupted creatures into the portal. (The portal is north of swamp.)
[There are a few hints that the player should round up all 8 holiday dragons and evil santa into the other side of the portal; the GM can help emphasize this part of the goal. If the player is able to negotiate a better way to end the curse through roleplay, it is the GM's decision whether to accept it or not. There are two beasts (festive elephants) which one or both could be considered the 8th corrupted reindeer; this is also decided between GM and player through roleplay discussion.]
4. Players may choose to give the spirit bomb to violetta or boram, or come up with their own solution (Requiring GM involvement / roleplay.)
[If the player gains the spirit bomb from Libra in the Astral Plane from the automated quest, and they are rounding up the corrupted beasts, the way I planned to guide players is to have them choose between Violetta and Boram to leave things to. If they chose Violetta, I would have her double cross the player (group) and close the portal behind or blow everyone up including the player. If they chose Boram, the players would be translocated, and the corrupted creatures would be ended or something. The solution is open ended, so the player could think of something else and the GM would accept it or not by discussion or echo success/failure messages. While winding down the quest and wrapping up the story, the player should be given or allowed to find the corrupt santa cap in order to complete the automated quest with Saint Nick. The GM should also summon saint nick to one of the three roofs. There is a roof at Odel's farm, Julius' house and the baron's house east of toldara.]
*5*. Translocate players after they deliver spirit bomb.
(Would be better to have script translocate them.)
*5b*. Echo-world messages after player chooses boram or violetta, etc.
*6*. Reload the zone / kill all the dragons and stuff, if players go back to check on the damage.
*7*. GM must summon santa to the world (secretly).
There are three roofs to choose from:
Julius' house, Odel's farm house, or the mansion in east commonlands.
*8*. Player should be able to complete the last two quests on their own, but GM may need to assist if something weird happens.
QUEST Scripts
-- I thought of adding some echo-world strings to help GMing, but wasn't able to decide on anything.
