I know we can't expect new features to come before Beta Launch, yet, if we ever need a reasonable new twist to gameplay, these two conditions could add new impactful effects to the user experience.
Dim would make it so all spaces but your own are in the fog of war. This could simulate the effects of getting dirty water or slime in the eyes, minor eye injuries (imagine getting hit so hard you can't see right!), and it could also be used eventually to create a condition which a character is naturally afflicted by 'dim' but glasses could correct it. (could be fun way to limit a character for some little tradeoff.)
Blind would make the map screen blacked out, only X's in your current room would show and your own X will move around normally as if on the map. The room descriptions would also be blank. NPCs could have blacked out "silhouette" images or the ? mark icon, and the name could be ?? or display race and sex. "A male gnome" ... could be a very quirky way to handle the blind condition -- but with more drastic consequences unlike Final Fantasy where this condition is as old as the series. Again, there could be a way to make this incorporated with various adventures, quests, and maybe even having some kind of trade-off to be permanently blind but you get intelligence or mana regen... could be fun to play as a disabled character.
(**Don't shoot me Afara!, but... Much later if we incorporate some special tags into the room desc text, such as **sound** **smell** we could have those parts of the room description show up when blind, so players could kind of navigate. Would be interesting experiment, maybe leading to better building planning and unique gameplay.**)
What do you guys think? Can you envision the fun with dim and blind condition effects? The more dynamic the GUI feels the better, is it not?
